My point of view

So I guess you all figured out that I visited my parents last week. Dad dug most of his carrots while I was there. I brought them home and canned 10 pints for him. I guess that is the beginning of my 2010 canning season.

For those of you who have not seen them for a while, Dad's hip is worn out and bothering him. He gimps around. The thing that shocks me is that he uses a cane. And it is even more amazing that he started using it and the dr didn't even tell him to.

From what I could see, Mom is doing as well as she was 2 months ago when I was there. Let me back up just a minute and explain what started the episode with the heart dr. She had a "routine" appt with the heart dr. It was her 6 month or whatever check up. When she told him about needing oxygen and a pain in her back, he wanted to check her out. Thus the angioplasty and thus the discovery of the heart valve problem and thus the talk of surgery.

Her left leg (the one that she broke) has not healed so it is painful. She heals slow because of her diabetes. Her right leg has been sore following the beating that it took with the attempted angioplasty. That leg has a 4 inch wide bruise all the way up her vein, but it is feeling much better now.

All 4 of us were able to go to the temple on Wednesday. Mom handled it good. I was tired when I got home. I had to keep trying to convince Mom that she was tired also and that she should relax. She was tired but kept trying to help me.

There is a dr in Nashville who uses a different procedure to replace the heart valve. His technique would work on Mom's condition and they did send him her records. The report from him is that it would be a very riskly surgery. Mom does not want to have the surgery; no how no way. And I agree with that. Any surgery would be an extreme high risk and she has so many other health issues, it just doesn't seem reasonable to attempt anything. She isn't even up to a trip to Nashville even if it was all about having fun.

So now you know what I think that I know.

Hi Marilyn
I thought it funny when grandma explained Nashville to me (minus the details you added) she said they would fly her home in a box! I am planning on driving both of them up to Idaho this weekend for Suzy's baptism. Is there anything I should be aware of? Or just have a good time!!

Grandpa with a cane, who would have thought! I guess since Pres. Hinckley used a cane (sort of), that makes it okay.
