Don't open the door

A  couple of days ago I read Isaac a story on Skype. It was about a mother goat who leaves her 7 kids home alone while she went shopping. (Just a note, Isaac told me that his mom leaves him and his brothers home alone to go shopping also).  Uhm. I don't think so. Anyway, the goat mother warned the kids of a wolf in the neighborhood and told her kids NOT to open the door while she was gone. Well the wolf comes and tricks the kids into opening the door. And the wolf ate 6 of the goats. The goats prevailed in the end. You will have to look up the story for the details, but here is the important part. The next morning Isaac is watching Super Why. He sees a wolf on TV and says, "Look a wolf. Just like in the story. Don't open the door."   I still chuckle when I think about it.

No Surgery

The final answer is that Mom is not a candidate for heart surgery. As far as that goes, I'm sure she's not a candidate for any surgery. Check Trish's blog for all the details. She was there. Her blog is linked to mine under Cola Wars.

Basically her aorta is very hardened and brittle. They don't even want to put a balloon in there for fear of the aorta shattering. Or something like that. What it gets down to is her heart is tired and worn out. (I can relate to that).

Last I knew, mom was on oxygen as needed. That was at night and when she was exerting but fine without it when just sitting idle. It seems that her main problem now is being short of breath. Mom is 77 yrs old. We'll see how she defies the drs yet again.

She will be going home tonight.

More news

I guess they got what they needed with the ultra sound they canceled the other one still wait for doc will keep ya posted

Maybe I could give a little commentary here. Mom's condition is serious but not critical. At this moment her life is not in jeapardy (at least until those doctors start cutting on her). She has a lot of pressure in her lungs, causing complications for anesthesia and also making breathing difficult. The dr said that her quality of life will be a factor without some sort of procedure done to correct the valve problem.

Stay tuned

Morning update

This is the message that I received this morning. Hopefully I can transcribe it without messing it up too bad.

Here is an update doc is concerned about her oxygen levels so he did not want to sedate her so he did an ultra sound hoping to get what they need if not he will do the other around noon i will keep ya posted.

more info

When Trish called me with the info on my mom this afternoon, I was busy running errands on an already hectic day and quite taken back by the news so I didn't get it exactly right. The dr does NOT want to do open heart surgery. Which is no surprise. They are doing a scope tomorrow to evaluate things and see if they can repair the valve instead of replace it.

I will keep you posted on things as I interpret them, then you can talk to someone who really knows what is going on.   : )

Grandma Petersen

My mom had an angioplasty today. The dr was not able to get through. So.....she will be having heart surgery hopefully w/in the next couple of days to replace the valve. I will keep you posted as I learn more.
She is in the Ogden hospital.

For you, Amy

This is Nathan. And unlike when I took pictures right after he was born, he is awake and alert for this picture. And not crying, now that's a bonus.

I'm not sure what happens when we need another beater for Nathan.

Grandpa had to take the boys to Cabellas. They all had a great time.

Grandma with 2 of her little guys. Isaac was asleep. It is quite a trick to have all 3 boys awake and not grumpy and a camera available.
And I have saved a few more for another day when I need to update my blog.

Lance's project

Thanks to those of you who gave ideas for Lance's project. The big challenge was that they had a budget of $150 and 1 semester to complete it. And it couldn't already have a patent. If it was a brilliant idea and was that inexpensive and quick to complete, don't you think that it would already be on the market? Anyway they are designing a remote control to rotate a wall mounted flat screen TV.

This would also be a good time to mention that Lance has passed his test to be an engineer. So now if he can pass this last class and f-i-n-a-l-l-y graduate, he could be hireable as an engineer. After he turned in his paperwork for graduation, he was notified that UNR was not accepting a couple of his humanities classes from BYU-I. After threatening to transfer back to BYU-I to graduate, he finally got things worked out and it appears that he might be on-line to graduate. We won't know for sure until the diploma is in his hands. Of course I will keep you posted on this.

We are now asking for any leads for job openings for a mechanical engineer. And of course my stipulation is that it needs to be within about 400 miles of my house.

Notice

Ok, Amy now I have 2 posts w/o pictures. They will probably show up later today. Hey, watching Olympics from 9 AM til midnight is starting to take a toll on me.

This is a quick note to let y'all know that my mom is having an angioplasty done Tues. This notice is mostly for Lance and Steph. I have had a problem lately of informing one of new events and not the other and getting in trouble for it. Perhaps I should post future notices to them on here.

Olympic Fog

Is everyone else running around in an "Olympic Fog"? I have been watching too much Olympics. Wait a minute. I'm sure it is impossible to watch too much Olympics, however, I am not getting enough sleep or getting much of anything else done. Oh well, it is 2 weeks, once every 2 yrs. But then after the Olympics get over it will almost be time for March Madness. Guess I will be busy for a while, or not.

I know that most of my fan club has better sources to follow Ellie than on my blog, but for the few of you who don't. Let me just say that Ellie went home a week ago Sunday. That was just less than 2 weeks after she was born. One of the things holding her up was they found out she was very tongue-tied. She had very little movement of her tongue, making it very difficult for her to nurse. They clipped her tongue and she is gaining weight. She now weights over 6 pounds. Go Ellie!!!!

Grandma to the rescue

I'm finally reporting on our trip to Reno to visit with Lance and family. Lance, Molly, Mike and I went to the temple Saturday. That was real nice. Then the real purpose of our trip was Sunday when Lance gave Nathan Charles a very nice blessing. Nathan didn't whimper or fuss at all during his blessing. Mike said that he just laid there with his eyes open looking up at the ceiling or whatever it was that he was seeing. He is a very good-natured baby.

After Sacrament meeting it was my job to take Mark to the nursery. He cried. But I left him and he calmed down. Isaac was assigned to give a talk in primary so of course Mike and I went to listen to that. He did very good. After the talk, I left to check on Mark, he was fine, and to go to the restroom. Somewhere in the middle of all that, Mike and I met up. He told me that Isaac was crying for grandma. I didn't have to ask where the sunbeams were meeting. Isaac's distress call was LOUD and clear. GRANDMAAAAAAAAA! I WANT MY GRANDMAAAAAAAAAA!

I got Nathan so Molly could teach her young women (and because I wanted to spend some time with him) and Nathan and I went to the sunbeam class. Crazy Isaac usually loves primary. He turned in his chair so his back was to his teacher. I chuckled to myself. This boy really was having issues. He wouldn't even sing the songs. We survived class time and he went in for sharing time and was just fine again. Nathan and I checked on Mark again and came back and Isaac was still fine so we went to relief society. I don't think I will be allowed to go to church with Isaac again. In Isaac's defense, he was a little sick for a couple of days.

Nathan was the only one that I didn't have crying at some point. Nathan really is my buddy. Oh yeah, but the other 2 didn't cry when they were with me.

Stay tuned. The pictures will follow on the next post.

Busy

I have been like a molting chicken ..... very unproductive. But the good news is that I've been busy the last couple of weeks. My house isn't spotless, or even clean, but it sure is a lot better than it had been.

This week I worked in my box room. I have many, many, many empty boxes in my garage now. It feels so good. Yes, I still have lots still to do but I made progress. And I can now walk to my window AND I can see each box and what is supposed to be in it. I'd better get that all done before the weather turns because then I have so much to do outside.

This was my reward for my work today. This is my favorite blanket to have as I lounge on the couch in the evenings (or during the day). It has been MIA since the move. Lance and Molly found it this fall when they were here, but they strategically hid it so I wouldn't find it until I had done some cleaning. Well. I found it!!! Guess I can be done cleaning now.
Stay tuned. Next week I get to share grandma pictures. Just a little preview. Mark is starting to talk, here are a few of the words he knows, mama, daddy, Nathan, mamamama (grandma), papa (or something like that is grandpa), and Star Wars. Yep, he is Lance's son and Isaac's bro. They have trained him well.
