The final answer is that Mom is not a candidate for heart surgery. As far as that goes, I'm sure she's not a candidate for any surgery. Check Trish's blog for all the details. She was there. Her blog is linked to mine under Cola Wars.
Basically her aorta is very hardened and brittle. They don't even want to put a balloon in there for fear of the aorta shattering. Or something like that. What it gets down to is her heart is tired and worn out. (I can relate to that).
Last I knew, mom was on oxygen as needed. That was at night and when she was exerting but fine without it when just sitting idle. It seems that her main problem now is being short of breath. Mom is 77 yrs old. We'll see how she defies the drs yet again.
She will be going home tonight.

That is sad! I wished they coudl ahve found something! There isn't any drug or anything to get rid of the calcium? This sounds kindof morbid, but are they just sending her home to bide her time? How long will her heart be able to work? I am sorry that this was the answer! How is your dad holding up? The rest of the family?
Sorry to read about your Mom. Hopefully now that they know what they need to know they can make her comfortable and not having to struggle at breathing. She is in our prayers and she seems to be one who defies the odds.
