I'm safe

I want to let you know that I made it home safely. Steph and Trish checked up on me tonight. I guess they love me the most. Rachel and Mike called while I was working and could not even say hi. Thanks for thinking of me.

Today had some exciting moments. I worked for 8 1/2 hrs. That included driving to Wells and doing a couple of motels that should have been named the Shady Motel but they weren't. (More details to follow). And we drove to Wendover and then home again. Just the driving would have been close to 3 1/2 hrs.

I filled in 6 or 7 questionnaires on my own. Guess I really am getting quicker at doing these. Then it takes 5 minutes to fill in all the other stuff that we have to for each questionnaire. I had several people say that they didin't want to give any info but I just start asking the questions and before they know it they have given all the answers that I needed. I did have a couple of people today who would not give their names. It is too bad that so many people have so much distrust for our gov't. However, I do understand their distrust.

This is my best story for today. At one of the Shady Motels I got a door slammed in my face and then she went to the closed window and started yelling profanities at me and then slammed the curtains closed. And to think that I brought my nice self to work today. I'm not sure what set her off. I'm quite proud of myself for being the 1st in my group to have a door slammed on them. I think I am official now.

In Wendover we did an RV park. I did part of the interview with one lady in Spanish. Lance is just rolling his eyes because he knows how fluent and wonderful my Spanish is. Hey I got her form completed. I had her give me her phone number in Spanish and then I threw in a Spanish word here and there to help her out.

Amy asked an interesting question that I hadn't thought of. If the form is sent to your house, you fill your own in and return it but if I knock at your door then you are not allowed to fill it in and I have to. Why is that? Without asking anyone else; this is what I came up with. Besides the fact that I am POWER hungry. (She who has the pencil rules). The forms we receive in the mail are to be filled out in ink. Our forms are filled out in pencil and I know our forms are read by machine. I think we fill them in with the hopes and assumption that the machine will be able to read our handwriting. We have been instructed on how to print the letters and numbers. That's my best guess. And just for the record, when I filled in my questionnaire at home, I used my best enumerator handwriting.

Stay tuned for tomorrow's adventures of a census worker.
